You are cordially invited to the wedding of...

Luna Brimstone and Cole Kellam

Chapter 1

How much stress could we handle before our perfect wedding day became a magical battleground?

“We could always elope.” I leaned against Cole Kellam’s broad chest, his chin resting on top of my head as he wrapped his solid arms around me. My farmhouse living room was a whirlwind of wedding paraphernalia. Piles of gifts. A stack of cards. Details of seating plans that had been altered ten times. My mother had even set up a whiteboard against one wall with a huge list of tasks to tick off. Just looking at it made my stomach churn.

“Whatever you want, it’s yours. Although I’ve heard the flowers are non-refundable. Three times.” Amusement swirled through Cole’s words as we stayed out of the way of the latest flurry of wedding decisions that overwhelmed me daily.

“They’d forgive us for sneaking off, wouldn’t they?” I asked. “All this pressure isn’t fun.”

“Our mothers thrive on pressure.” Cole kissed the top of my head. “We’ll get through this and out the other side. Then we can do exactly what we want.”

I rested a hand on his and squeezed. “I knew it would be like this. What with my mother, and...”

He chuckled. “You can say it. Mine is way worse than yours. She’s an alpha from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail.”

“Mine is the same, minus the tail,” I said. “I didn’t realize a werewolf-witch wedding would cause such a stir, though.” I backed up as one of the many assistants who’d been hired to ensure wedding perfection almost stood on my foot.

“You underestimate the influence our families have,” Cole murmured.

I was only too aware of the influence the Brimstone Dynasty had. We were ranked number two in the magically competitive field of baking magic, and my parents constantly vied for the number one spot. And my marriage to Cole may get them what they desire. The Kellams were top of the werewolf hierarchy. Along with Cole, his three brothers, and his parents, they couldn’t be bested. That meant there were healthy egos lurking around all my wedding decisions.

It sent an unpleasant chill through me. “If we elope, we can keep it simple. Just us and a few close friends. Could you convince Reuben to join us? You’ll want your best man with you. And I know my friends would be okay with sneaking away. Storm has been threatening to hex anyone who asks her to go for another dress fitting.”

“Reuben would be fine with whatever we decide,” Cole said. “So, where shall we go?”

I grinned as he indulged in my impossible escape fantasy. I turned and looked up at my tall, muscled fiancé, his patient dark eyes settling on mine and calming the chaos within me. I reached up and pushed his shoulder-length dark hair off his face. “You’d really do it?”

“For you, anything.”

“Even face the wrath of our families if we sneak away?”

“Luna, the only thing I care about is having you as my forever mate.
